ArtsWORK IndianaArts Access Committee of Bloomington
With a membership including representatives from museums and other cultural organizations, the low vision community, city government, disability service organizations, and medical institutions, the Committee's activities promote arts access for area residents with low vision. It is affiliated with the City of Bloomington's Council on Community and Accessibility. E-mail the Arts Access Committee.
AMHPA (Awareness of Mental Health through the Performing Arts)
A coalition of mental health and arts organizations. Its mission is To create awareness of mental health by providing education and insights through the performing arts. Members are the Mental Health Association of Indiana, Mental Health Association of Marion County, NAMI Indiana, NAMI Indianapolis, Key Consumer Organization, Inc., and VSA arts of Indiana. Diversity Theatre
Based in Bloomington, the theatre exists to increase awareness of social issues involving race, ethnicity, homelessness, age, disability, gender, and sexual orientation. The company takes an advocacy role to dispel myths about members of minorities, with the goal of serving as catalyst for positive change. New members welcomed, for on and off-stage participation. Dream Makers
The Arc of Hancock County's theater group provides performance opportunities for people of all abilities. Those with and without disabilities are encouraged to participate. Productions are available to tour schools. For more information, E-mail Sandra Hartlieb or telephone her at 317-462-3727.
Northern Indiana Institute for Artists with Disabilities, Inc.
A not-for-profit organization in Mishawaka serving St. Joseph county. NIAD's mission is "to serve adults with various physical and mental disabilities by providing educational, therapeutic art classes that are modified to meet every individual's specific needs." NIAD offers classes modified to meet the needs of the participants, and brings a portable art studio to facilities who assist adults with various disabilities. Picture This
Trained, professional actors use improvisational theatre and role-playing to involve groups in problem-solving for a variety of challenging work and life issues. Picture This interactive theater offers experiential training programs for business, helping employees develop new skills for managing health and work/life issues. Theater of Inclusion
"We make and present original theater works which explore human equality." Multidisciplinary arts workshops, painting residencies, and other arts experiences are offered.
VSA arts of Indiana
A nonprofit affiliate of the national organization VSA arts (formerly Very Special Arts) offering "a variety of programs and services designed to unleash the creative spirit and artistic gifts of people with disabilities." Classes, exhibits, and Urban Artisans training program in Indianapolis; Artist in Residence program and community arts festivals statewide. Indiana Coalition for the Arts
In 2006 Arts Alliance Indiana and Indiana Advocates for the Arts combined their resources to advocate, educate and act on behalf of the arts in Indiana. Provides professional development scholarships, annual conference, community arts leadership awards, and technical assistance workshops.
Traditional Arts Indiana Artist Directory
Listing of individual traditional artists and groups living in Indiana interested in public performance, demonstration, or marketing opportunities. There is no charge to be listed, but you must meet the TAI definition of "traditional" to be eligible.
Indiana Humanities Council
Young Audiences of Indiana
Young Audiences of Indiana brings professional "teaching artists" into schools to perform live for, or work directly with, kids. In addition to their regular in-school programs for students, the artists also offer afterschool programs for students and/or professional workshops for teachers. Teaching artists must successfully complete a comprehensive year-long audition and certification process. Disciplines represented by the affiliated artists are listed as dance, historical characters, multi-arts, music, storytelling and writing, theater, and visual arts.
